Panoramic elevator in the Colosseum: inclusion and views guaranteed
May 31, 2023, Rome
Inaugurated yesterday and accessible to the public starting next month, a panoramic elevator has been placed inside the XXVII fornix of the Colosseum and will allow all Park visitors to reach the highest levels of the cavea, particularly the gallery located between the 2nd and 3rd orders, to fully enjoy the beauty of the Italian monument.
Specifically, Maspero Elevatori was responsible for making the glass cabin of the panoramic elevator.
The aim is to make the visit inclusive even for people with reduced mobility or disabilities.
In fact, between the 1st order and the intermediate gallery there are 100 steep steps that can thus be bypassed while enjoying a unique view thanks to the panoramic elevator window.
An important goal is physical, cultural and cognitive accessibility: to this end, the facility has adopted appropriate visitor aids (signage, tactile maps, easy-to-read guides).
The panoramic elevator was born from the synergy between the Archaeological Park and the Italian Cinema Orchestra, the protagonist in 2018 of an event for polio in the world.
Moreover, it was built in full compliance with the directions of the Archaeological Park and current regulations, in line with the specificity of the site and fits harmoniously into the monument, minimizing the occupation of space and in absolute respect of the existing masonry, thanks to the use of pressure anchor points that ensure the total reversibility of the work.
The panoramic elevator always turns out aesthetically beautiful, as well as offering a unique experience for those who ride it!
