Every project is special and unique to Maspero Elevatori, but there are some that have presented such construction challenges as to require great effort and design intelligence.
It was only thanks to a long and established experience in the field and a prepared and determined team that it was possible to find solutions that were often out of the box, always great and perfectly capable of brilliantly solving all the client’s requests.
Here you find highlighted some of the most significant projects carried out by Maspero Elevatori by devising novel solutions to challenging problems.
Acropolis of Athens, now the visit is for everyone
The challenge
From the ancient Peripatos Street at the foot of the Acropolis it was intended to be possible to reach the Temple of the Caryatids (Erechtheion) quickly and safely, thus giving everyone the opportunity to visit a World Heritage monument.
The facility would have to negotiate an impervious uneven slope, provide transportation when there was a significant flow of visitors, and ensure access to wheelchairs and a stretcher in case of need.

solution
The special elevator built is an inclined elevator with a change of gradient ranging from 38 to 78 degrees that connects Peripatos with Erechtheus in less than a minute, allowing, thanks to the glass cabin, spectacular views. It has a capacity of 1,250 kg and can carry up to 16 people or 2 wheelchairs with accompanying persons. The special elevator was designed to also be able to carry an ambulance stretcher with operator in an emergency. The project was successfully completed despite operational difficulties due to the lockdown period for Covid 19.
Colosseum, inclusive access getting higher and higher
The challenge
To make the visit to the Flavian Amphitheater as easy as possible by allowing access to one of the highest points of the cavea, namely the gallery between the recently restored 2nd and 3rd orders.
The greatest difficulty was the rather narrow spaces bounded by untouchable masonry.

solution
A special vertical elevator was designed and built and, thanks to a system of pressure anchors, it minimized space occupancy, thus not affecting the existing masonry and ensuring the total reversibility of the work.
The development and construction phase of this important work was made even more complex by the pandemic, which extended the timeframe, especially those related to the various authorizations needed.
Montegalletto, cabins enter the heart of the hillside
The challenge
Genoa’s transportation company wanted to modernize the old connection between the lower and upper parts of this city district, avoiding the need for people to walk through the long, damp tunnel under the hill before they could reach the vertical elevator, while also replacing the outdated system.

solution
An integrated system has been built. The first horizontal section is traversed by a cable system at a speed of 4.5 m per second. At the end of the tunnel, the cabin is transferred by motorized tires into the elevator and transported at a speed of 1.16 m per second along the vertical shaft to the upper floor.
Doubling the vertical part allows two cabins, each with a capacity of 23 people, to be put into service simultaneously, alternately engaging the horizontal tunnel.
The facility is fully automated and remotely controlled.

The need for a major London museum venue to accommodate large articulated vehicles for moving artworks was not to impact an architectural building with a distinct personality and located in the heart of the city.

Design a vertical movement system to make it easy to visit the prestigious Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, Russia, by connecting two levels of the building without aesthetically impacting the large open space of the museum hall.

The challenge
To connect the Quezzi neighborhood, in Genoa, it was necessary to find a solution that would avoid impactful and costly excavations, given the morphologically uneven terrain.
The solution was also expected to enable the containment of operating costs.

The project to restore the former shipyard railway bridge in the French town of La-Seyne-sur-Mer involved converting the structure into an observation tower.
An elevator was needed to add to the drama of what is now a historic monument and emblem of the town.
